Canola Meal at the Tri-State Dairy Nutrition Conference

During the 2015 Tri-State Dairy Nutrition Conference, held April 20-22, 2015 in Ft. Wayne, Ind., Canolamazing representatives had the opportunity to learn more about current trends in the dairy industry, as well as share the canola meal story with conference attendees.

One of the common misconceptions around canola meal is that it is not a good value for the price per ton. The Canolamazing team, Brittany Dyck, and , Essi Evans, were able to walk dairy producers and nutritionists through the Canola Meal Calculator during the tradeshow portion of the conference, to demonstrate the value of canola meal in comparison to other protein ingredients on a broader nutrient basis, as opposed to a simple comparison on crude protein content.

Evans also gave an official presentation during the conference, titled “What’s All The Hype About Canola Meal?” The presentation focused on rumen undegradable protein in canola meal and how soluble protein does not equal degradability. Evans was also able to find congruent topics with other speakers. During her presentation, Evans spoke on canola meals’ ability to reduce milk urea nitrogen (MUN) levels when compared to other protein ingredients, which was the topic of a presentation by Dr. Mark Hanigan from Virginia Tech University
